How Do You Qualify for an E1 Visa?

For those of you who are thinking of going to the US with the use of an E1 visa, the first thing you need to do is to find out whether you qualify or not. It is pointless to try and submit requirements for this visa type when you do not make the cut in the first place. To get started, below are some information about the E1 Visa and who can qualify for it.

Background on the E-Visas.

The US has signed treaties with a number of countries throughout the years and some of them, the treaties for “Friendship, Commerce, and Navigation,” were especially designed in order to promote trade and investment and the countries that sign the treaties. In turn, they help encourage peace and good relations. Just recently, the US entered into several Bilateral Investment treaties with former communist states. The reason is because they wanted to direct investments to the US and trade with the US as well.  The visas given to people from these former communist states and other countries are called E-visas of which there are two types – E1 and E2. The focus for now is the E1 visa application and who can qualify for it.

The E1 Visa Application.

The E1 Visa is for nationals who come from treaty countries that engage in a lot of international trade with the US. Now, this isn’t to mean that a person who sends a couple of boxes of supplies to the US immediately qualifies because the amount that is traded must be large enough to justify why the trader or his employees need to go to the US to manage the trade. Also, the amount of products traded must make up the majority of the traders business which means that at least 50% of the exports and imports go to the US. While there is no set level at which trade will be considered sufficient, it is safe to say that the lower the number or amount of trade, the lower the chances of getting an E1 Visa approved and going to the US as a trader under treaty.
